Job Description

Assist in maintenance functions on a variety of general aviation aircraft to learn about aircraft maintenance.

This job description establishes and defines the authority, accountability, reporting relationships, responsibilities and duties of a Non A & P Mechanic within the Maintenance Department at Central Flying Service.



REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Mechanic reports to the assigned Lead Technician.

REQUIREMENTS
Education
Required: High School Diploma or equivalent

Preferred: Additional Aviation Training

Experience
Required: One year maintaining aircraft.
Preferred: 3 years maintaining general aviation aircraft
Skill, Knowledge and Abilities
Language Skills:
• Ability to read, write and speak English clearly
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively to the customers or employees of organization
Mathematical Skills:
• Ability to calculate figures and amounts and to apply concepts of basic math

Reasoning Ability:
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 80 pounds.
A typical workweek consists of 40 hours per week, with some overtime required
Mental
Must be able to read, understand and interpret instructions and information at the high school level.
WORKING CONDITIONS

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme cold and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment can be very loud on occasion.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work alone or as a team member in performing inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance on a large variety of general aviation aircraft.
AUTHORITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Mechanic is responsible to perform assigned tasks on airframe, interior, engine, and associated components, in accordance with current FAA regulations, and appropriate technical manuals

The Mechanic is responsible to report any un-airworthy condition to the Chief Inspector and the appropriate DOM.

The Mechanic is responsible to report any un-safe practices to the appropriate DOM and the Chief Inspector.

The Mechanic is responsible to follow and not deviate from any written instructions such as Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins, Service Instructions, Kit Installation Instructions, Supplemental Type Certificates, etc. without approval of the Chief Inspector.

The Mechanic is responsible for getting an Inspector to sign off his work.


DUTIES AND TASKS
• Perform maintenance activities as directed by the lead or other assigned supervisor.

• Consult and get a plan of action approved before spending more than thirty minutes troubleshooting a problem.

• Seek out discrepancies on the aircraft and report them to the DOM or his designee. Write maintenance forms (squawks) on all discrepancies found.

• Respect the confidentiality of company, customer, and personnel information

• Maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisors and other staff members

• Demonstrate ability to tactfully handle difficult situations

• Perform maintenance duties away from base on temporary duty

• Provide proper notification and advanced notice of absence

• Report to work on time each day, after lunch, after breaks, and not leave early

• Maintain the work area in a neat and orderly manner. Clean up spilled fuel or hazardous materials immediately.

• Maintain an awareness of and conform to all company policies and procedures

• Wear a clean complete company uniform and maintain a well groomed, professional appearance, appropriate for the position.

• Perform other duties and tasks as may be assigned from time to time by the assigned lead or supervisor

Full-time position
M-F 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Some overtime required

Basic Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years of age
High School Diploma or GED
One year maintaining aircraft.
Must be working toward obtaining your A&P license.
