Aircraft Maintenance Inspector

Job Description

The job description establishes and defines the authority, accountability, reporting relationships, responsibilities, and duties of an Aircraft Maintenance Inspector within the Maintenance Department at Central Flying Service.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Inspector reports to the Chief Inspector. When directed, Inspectors will report to the assigned Inspector Supervisor.

REQUIREMENTS
Education
Required: High School Diploma or GED

Licensing/Registration/Certification
Required: Airframe and Powerplant License
Valid Driver’s License
Desired: Inspection Authorization
Experience
Required: Five years experience in General Aviation aircraft maintenance.

Preferred: Two years inspection experience
Skill, Knowledge and Abilities
• Knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations as they pertain to aviation maintenance.
• Ability to determine the differences between approved and acceptable data.
• Ability to recognize unapproved data and parts.
• Ability to understand Maintenance Manuals and other technical data.
• Ability to read blue prints and engineer drawings.
• Ability to conform completed tasks to the technical data from which they were completed.


• Ability to write technical reports in a professional, concise and understandable manner.
• Familiarization with various types of Maintenance record keeping programs (i.e. CESCOM, CAMP, STARS)
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with maintenance technicians.
Physical
• Ability to work a minimum of an 8-hour shift in the outside temperature ranges found in Little Rock, AR.
• Full, unrestricted body movement.
• Corrected vision to 20/20.
• Ability to distinguish the full range of sounds.
• Must be able to distinguish all colors.
Mental
• Ability to read, comprehend and write in English.
• The ability to interpret 2 dimensional drawings into 3 dimensional projects.
WORKING CONDITIONS

This employee will be exposed to outdoor temperature extremes normal to Little Rock Arkansas during the year. Most work will be conducted between an aircraft hangar and office environment. This employee will, on occasion be called upon to work around operating aircraft. The dangers associated with this position include exposure to excessive noise, injury due to contact with moving aircraft parts such as propellers or jet engines, fall hazards from working on scaffolding, or eye injuries while working with cut metals, screws and solvents.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential function of this employee is to perform maintenance inspections on various types of general aviation aircraft.



AUTHORITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The employee is responsible for performing inspections on aircraft. As such, he is responsible for ensuring that all work performed meet the standards of the Federal
Aviation Administration and the Repair Station, and that all work conducted by this employee assists in rendering the aircraft safe for flight. The inspector may, if assigned, have the authority to return aircraft to service in accordance with Federal Aviation Regulations.
DUTIES AND TASKS

Understanding Aircraft Binder located in Maintenance Control and on the floor containing Maintenance Forms that describe the work being conducted.

Read, understand and stay current with Federal Aviation Regulation requirements as applicable to maintenance and inspection functions.

Understand the Repair Station Manual, aircraft and component privileges granted by the Repair Station certificate and the limitations of the inspector position within the Repair Station.

Conform all maintenance performed to instructions, blue prints, and/or engineering diagrams or other data approved for an aircraft or component.

Seek out discrepancies that may have not been readily observable to the owner or Maintenance Director, particularly after the aircraft has been dismantled. When additional discrepancies are discovered, notify the Maintenance Lead Technician for that aircraft.

Review Maintenance Forms throughout the work process. Ensure all forms are completed and accurate and that entries conform to Repair Station requirements and FAA regulations.


Review maintenance performed on airframes, engines, systems and components as directed by the Chief Inspector.

Research maintenance records to determine current aircraft status and the requirements necessary to return an aircraft or component to service.

Perform all inspections in a safe manner, observing all safety regulations, and minimizing any potential safety hazards that arise from the inspection being performed.

Observe removed or condemned parts ensuring that they are properly tagged and placed in designated areas to preserve their status.

If work is to be conducted on the aircraft by an inspector on a subsequent shift, ensure a complete briefing of information concerning work completed during your shift is provided for the oncoming inspector.

Coordinate all inspection activities with maintenance technicians and maintenance control personnel that may have been assigned the same aircraft.

During hours designated as working hours, obligate your full attention and efforts to the duties to be performed.

Complete all paperwork in the prescribed manner and turn in Aircraft Binders in your possession to Maintenance Control after each shift.

Ensure time cards and time sheets are properly filled out and turned in as appropriate.

Maintain cordial relationships with other directors, inspectors, technicians and customers.

Maintain an awareness of, and conform to, all company policies and procedures.

Maintain a well-groomed, professional appearance at all times.

Ensure clothing is kept free of contaminants prevalent in an aircraft maintenance facility.

Review Repair Station procedures and make recommendations to the Chief Inspector as necessary

Perform additional tasks as may be assigned.

M-F 7:00 - 3:30
Some overtime required

Basic Qualifications

Must be 18 years of age
High School Diploma or GED
A & P License
Valid Driver's License
5 years experience in General Aviation aircraft maintenance.
